Menstrual care is not one-size-fits-all. Tampons can be drying. Pads can feel bulky. Traditional Period Cups can be difficult to remove.
Lumma’s disc is designed to sit comfortably at the vaginal fornix, collecting — not absorbing — menstrual flow. It provides up to 12 hours of protection, is compatible with sex (yes, really), and reduces the risk of leaks and odors.
And unlike disposable products, which contribute over 20 billion pads and tampons to landfills each year, the Lumma Disc is reusable for years, reducing your footprint while supporting your freedom.
Step 1 - Pinch your disc
Squeeze the rim in the middle of the menstrual disc to form an “8” shape, maintaining the string in front of the disc.
Step 2 - Be prepared
Take a moment to breathe and get comfortable. Find a position which you can get access to your canal.
Step 3 - Inserting
Insert the disc into the vaginal canal. Continue pushing the disc toward the end of the canal until you feel that it’s positioned under your cervix.
Step 4 - Get done
Push upwards on the front of the rim, securing it behind the pubic bone. Part of the silicone string will remain outside the entrance of the vagina.
Step 5 - Be prepared
Take a moment to breathe and get comfortable. Find a position which you can get access to your canal.
Step 6 - Take your time and stay cautious
Pull lightly and slowly with the front of the string until the rim of the disc slips off the pubic bone and lines up with the entrance to the vagina, then pull out gently with your fingers.
Step 7 - Cleaning
Dispose of the contents in the toilet. Begin by rinsing it with cold water with a gentle soap or cleanser and rinse again with warm water. Once it’s clean, either reinsert the disc or keep it in its pouch for the next time.
Hack 1 - Removal without the string
If cut your string, you will need to use the rim of your period disc to release it from behind your pubic bone. Engaging your pelvic floor muscles can help you, so bear down as if you're trying to have a bowel movement - you don’t need to push too hard. It also helps to keep a finger inside, so you're ready to hook the disc and pull it out.
Hack 2 - You should try several positions
Since every body is unique, it’s key to experiment with different positions to see what’s most comfortable for you when inserting your disc. You might try sitting on the toilet, standing with one leg raised, squatting, lying on your side, or even getting into a tabletop position.
